GULU, UGANDA — Joy and excitement filled the atmosphere on Saturday, May 16, as Kumalo Sports Academy were officially crowned champions of the Gulu DFA 6th Division League for the 2025/2026 season at the Gulu Fourth Division Football Grounds following a remarkable campaign.

The academy secured the league title after consistently delivering strong performances throughout the season, finishing top of the table with 33 points to earn automatic promotion to the Gulu DFA 5th Division League for the 2026/2027 season.
During the official crowning ceremony, Christopher Odoch, Chairperson Gulu District Football Association congratulated the team for their dedication and discipline, saying The Academy deserved the championship after outperforming all the competing clubs in the league.
He further commended the academy’s leadership for investing heavily in youth development and creating opportunities for young players to showcase their talent through organized football competitions.
Odoch also pledged continued support from the District Football Association toward initiatives aimed at promoting grassroots football and nurturing future stars in Northern Uganda.
Speaking to the media after lifting the trophy, Gilbert Mwaka, Technical director,Kumalo Sports asserts that the academy’s participation in the league was focused on exposing young players to competitive football and preparing them for higher levels.
“Our main goal is to develop young players into professional footballers and give them opportunities to compete at bigger stages,” Mwaka noted.
Fans and supporters praised the team for its outstanding achievement and expressed confidence that the academy will continue producing talented players capable of competing at higher levels of football.
In the final league standings, Kumalo Sports Academy finished top with 33 points, followed by Blue Zone FC and Owoo United FC who both collected 27 points. Tanda FC finished fourth with 24 points, while Lacor Real Hawks FC and Gulu Bathel SC each finished with 22 points. Unyama United FC secured 18 points, while City Tiger Pageya FC and Awach Lions FC completed the standings with 9 and 7 points respectively.
Kumalo Sports Academy finished the season with an impressive record of 9 wins, 6 draws, and only 1 defeat, demonstrating their dominance in the league and marking a major milestone in the academy’s growing journey.
