St Joseph’s College Layibi battled to a hard-fought goalless draw against 2025 defending champions Bishop Negri College in a tense Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Football Competition clash held at Gulu College of Clinical Officers today.

Layibi dominated the first half with constant pressure and attacking intent, but Bishop Angelo Negri remained resilient in defense to keep the game goalless at halftime.
The intensity of Layibi’s pressure saw Bishop Angelo Negri captain Komakech Denis Kitara booked for a reckless foul on Akena Samuel Douglas, as frustrations began to show within the defending champions’ ranks.

In the second half, Layibi continued to push for a breakthrough, creating several chances but were repeatedly denied by a solid defensive display and an impressive performance from the Negri goalkeeper. Negri, on the other hand, struggled to create clear opportunities, managing limited threat going forward.
Layibi head coach Francis Ochora praised his players’ effort and discipline despite expressing disappointment with the result and he added the he’s focused on the next game, while fans applauded both teams for an entertaining and competitive match.
St Joseph’s College Layibi will next face Bethel S.S on 18.03.2026 in their second Group B fixture, scheduled for 3:00 PM at Gulu High School East Playing Ground.
