Lwani Soccer Academy claimed their first-ever victory over Kumalo Sports Club with a 3-1 comeback win in a friendly match played yesterday at Gulu Fourth Division Barracks .The result marks an important milestone for Lwani as both sides continue their preparations for the upcoming Gulu DFA League and cup competitions.
Kumalo Sports Club took an early lead when Bill Clinton found the back of the net in the fourth minute after being set up by Geoffrey Onekalit.
Lwani responded well and drew level in the 25th minute through Ogenrwot Robinson, sending the two teams into the halftime break tied at 1-1.
The home side stepped up their performance after the restart, with Opiyo Denis scoring twice in the 71st and 87th minutes to complete the comeback and secure a memorable 3-1 victory.
Despite the defeat, Kumalo Sports Club captain Acire Brian Aduga remained confident that the team would recover. He attributed the loss to a lack of match fitness, explaining that several players were returning from injuries and long holiday break. Aduga also thanked the club’s supporters and urged them to continue backing the team.
Fans who attended the match praised the quality of football on display, saying such fixtures help promote grassroots football in Gulu. Many also called on the management of both clubs to arrange another friendly match in the coming weeks.
Lwani Sports Club Chief Executive Director Nyeko Jimmy commended both teams for their performance and sportsmanship and expressed his willingness to host Kumalo Sports Club again for another friendly encounter.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday as they continue preparations for the new season. Kumalo Sports Club will face Mass Villa FC, while Lwani Soccer Academy will take on Unyama United FC ahead of the Gulu DFA League and cup competitions.
